2014 NFL MOCK DRAFT

Welcome to Bryan Ferrer's annual NFL mock draft! As always these mock drafts are done by what I would do if I was in charge of each franchise. To keep things simple, there won't be any draft pick trading in my mock as that is too tough to predict. Without further ado the Houston Texans are on the clock!
1. Houston Texans
Jadeveon Clowney
DE, South Carolina
As we saw this past season defense wins championships. The best way to help the number one pick succeed, line him up opposite of All-Pro J.J. Watt.
2. St. Louis Rams (from Washington)
Sammy Watkins
WR, Clemson
What a way to bring back "The Greatest Show On Turf" as Watkins is the big wide receiver they are missing. Considered an offensive tackle, but my opinion is at pick 13 the drop off at wide receiver is much more substantial than tackle.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
Johnny Manziel
QB, Texas A&M
Someone needs to throw the ball to Justin Blackmon and the team needs someone at quarterback who is mobile.
4. Cleveland Browns
Teddy Bridgewater
QB, Louisville
I favor a dual-threat quarterback, but Bridgewater is my number two ranked quarterback and if picks 1-3 go the way I would draft then selecting Bridgewater at four would be a smart move as Cleveland must select a QB here.
5. Oakland Raiders
Justin Gilbert
CB, Oklahoma State
In a division when you face Peyton Manning and Phillip Rivers twice a year you're not going to win those games in a shootout. I believe Gilbert is going to be the best cornerback from this class and his intangibles are too freakish to pass up.
6. Atlanta Falcons
Jake Matthews
Tackle, Texas A&M
After a season in which the wheels fell off for the Falcons getting Julio Jones back from injury should bring them back to contending. Adding an offensive lineman that'll keep Matt Ryan upright would be my main concern.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Greg Robinson
Tackle, Auburn
In Lovie's first draft as a Buccaneer it is pretty clear cut that he will be looking for a QB, but with the way the draft has gone so far at 7 I would look elsewhere. Focus on your great running back Doug Martin and draft an offensive lineman who is tremendous at run blocking.
8. Minnesota Vikings
Khalil Mack
LB, Buffalo
The Vikings need a quarterback, but drafting one this high feels like bit of rebuilding mode. I strongly considered a wide receiver, but the defense has a lot of holes to fill. Replacing Jarred Allen should be priority number one, but I absolutely love Khalil Mack out of the University of Buffalo.
9. Buffalo Bills
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
Safety, Alabama
With letting Jairus Byrd go to free agency I would answer right back with selecting a safety that is a proven winner. Adding more players who are accustomed to winning is something Buffalo could use in the locker room.
10. Detroit Lions
Darqueze Dennard
CB, Michigan State
It was so tempting to select Mike Evans here, but the defensive side of the ball needs help much more. Adding a number two wide receiver is crucial in this draft, but Detroit can do that later.
11. Tennessee Titans
Kony Ealy
DE, Missouri
Adding a pass rusher off the edge is a priority and the Titans are in a great spot to do so at pick 11.
12. New York Giants
Taylor Lewan
Tackle, Michigan
What an absolute ideal pick this would be for the Giants. Adding a top tier lineman in this draft to help protect your franchise quarterback is a great start to get the Giants back into the playoffs.
13. St. Louis Rams
Aaron Donald
DT, Pittsburgh
In almost a dream scenario for the Rams, a top wide out and tackle was ruined by the previous pick. I believe in Bradford as he was having a solid season before his injury. With that said, I'm adding pieces to that defense and Donald would be my pick.
14. Chicago Bears
Calvin Pryor
Safety, Louisville
I considered going with a defensive lineman here, but I love that Chicago can add Pryor at pick 14.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Evans
WR, Texas A&M
Getting younger on defense is still a need in the Steel City, but the offense needs some help too. As much as Heath Miller is loved in Pittsburgh he is getting old and getting a second tight end will pay off greatly down the road, the Steelers need a big wide receiver and Evans fits perfectly.
16. Dallas Cowboys
Timmy Jernigan
DT, Florida State
Getting help at wide receiver is something the Cowboys need to address this off-season, but the defensive end of the ball is where Dallas needs to attack via the draft.
17. Baltimore Ravens
Brandin Cooks
WR, Oregon State
Yes, I passed on Marqise Lee and drafted Cooks because I like what he can do opposite of Torrey Smith. The Ravens are in great position to trade down, but adding a wide receiver is the route I would go if forced to make a pick here.
18. New York Jets
Marqise Lee
WR, USC
I strongly considered Eric Ebron here, but I would draft Lee as him and Geno have the potential to form something great in the NFL.
19. Miami Dolphins
David Yankey
Guard, Stanford
Offensive line is a desire need in Miami. The Dolphins need to protect their young franchise QB and adding the number one guard in the draft is an ideal start.
20. Arizona Cardinals
Eric Ebron
TE, North Carolina
What a surprise team in the NFL and one that not many people talked about. The Cardinals flew under the radar and because of their division have a tough task ahead. I considered selecting a tackle here, but the Cardinals do get Jonathan Cooper back from injury and that'll help with the offensive line rotation. I love the addition of Eric Ebron as Arizona gets a stud TE in their pass happy offense.
21. Green Bay Packers
C.J. Mosley
LB, Alabama
Defense is always something Green-Bay needs. The injury to Finley last season is scary so a tight end is a need in their offense, but adding a linebacker like Mosley would be my selection for the Pack.
22. Philadelphia Eagles
Anthony Barr
LB, UCLA
Chip Kelly goes to his bag of tricks and gets an absolute stud who should translate into a beast for the Eagles. With their system I would love to add the athletic Barr.
23. Kansas City Chiefs
Kyle Fuller
CB, Virginia Tech
The Chiefs need more play makers on the offensive side of the ball, but I just don't see anyone worthy of selecting here. Depth is a concern in KC as we all witnessed what happened in the Wildcard game against the Colts. It seemed as if players were dropping like flies. Adding depth at a position as important as CB would be a top priority of mine.
24. Cincinnati Bengals
Ryan Shazier
LB, Ohio State
The Bengals have all the talent on offense, they just need to right play calling. I'm fine with Andy Dalton at QB and the Bengals need help getting their first playoff win in more than 20 years. Although a defensive lineman isn't a glaring need I considered taking a one based off of best available, but Shazier is a player the Bengals need more.
25. San Diego Chargers
Bradley Roby
CB, Ohio State
I wanted to go offensive lineman here, but as a unit they improved throughout the season last year. Again, if I'm in a division with Manning I am adding depth to cornerback.
26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis)
Kelvin Benjamin
WR, Florida State
In this scenario where a QB like Blake Bortles is still available it kind of stinks knowing that as I would have went a different route at 4. I would not select a running back in the first round and the Browns need a solid option opposite of Josh Gordon. Adding Bridgewater and Benjamin in round one would be considered a big win if I'm Cleveland. The only thing that scares me is that in two years the Browns will have a new leadership and scheme they want to implement.
27. New Orleans Saints
Dee Ford
DE, Auburn
I would focus on defense. Adding a defensive end like Ford is a legit pick here at 27.
28. Carolina Panthers
Jarvis Landry
WR, LSU
The Panthers need to focus on getting Cam Newton help and the wide receiver position is where the Panthers should focus on here at 28. Steve Smith is 35 and Brandon LaFell is no more than a #2 wide out.
29. New England Patriots
Louis Nix 3rd
DT, Notre Dame
The Patriots could use help at corner back and although former Bowling Green State University grad Chris Jones played exceptionally well in the absence of Vince Wilfork, I would continue to bulk up that defensive line and add as many big bodies as I can.
30. San Francisco 49ers
Scott Crichton
DE, Oregon State
To me the offense is fine as they resigned Boldin. I would focus this pick on adding depth and getting younger on the defensive line.
31. Denver Broncos
Zach Martin
Tackle, ND
The Broncos suffered a ton of injuries throughout their Super Bowl run and anytime Peyton Manning is my quarterback I am adding depth to keep him standing up in the pocket. Obviously, they need help on the defensive end of the ball, but that can be addressed later.
32. Seattle Seahawks Marcus Martin
Center, USC
I would draw my attention to the offensive side and why not draft an offensive lineman as every team needs depth in the interior. It is the moves like these that make Seattle so good. Drafting for the future and not always selecting the household names or position players keeps Seattle as a legit contender to win back to back Super Bowls.
